Desert wildflowers are pretty impressive… oranges, reds, purples, whites and yellows… all dotting the greater Mojave Desert. These flowers were growing out of a crack in Red Rock Canyon’s famous sandstone formations. How life can survive growing out of what appears to be solid rock will always fascinate me.

Columbus HDR Sunset
This picture has been featured on my website countless times. It’s definitely one of my favorites. Taken from the approach end of runway 31, three exposures tone mapped together make this photo really grab you.
Stennis Lock and Dam
Another photo from my first day out shooting HDR. This is Stennis Lock and Dam in Columbus, MS on an overcast day. It sits on the Tombigbee Waterway that runs from the Gulf up to Tennessee somewhere. Columbus AFB uses it as a reference point for entry into the radar pattern to runway 13.
Wright Brothers Hangar
Maxwell AFB is home to what used to be the first flight school of the Wright Brothers. Now home to Base Operations, the site has this commemorative stone to let everyone know the significance of the site. That’s what great about Maxwell AFB… it’s full to the brim with real Air Force history and tradition. I love when I get the opportunity to go there. Photo credits actually go to the lovely Erin Orozco who is so adamant about credit where credit is due. She has a talent for photography, though. Can’t argue that.
Zion’s Flower
I caught this image in July 2007 while traveling to the cabin is Kolob Canyons, UT just outside of Zion National Park.
The Matriarch
This is my grandma, Pauline Utterback. My mom’s mom, she’s the matriarch of that side of my family. Alive and kicking, she recently was introduced to Facebook and email. Luckily my mom serves as her tech support and not me. I grabbed this picture at her 75th birthday party in 2007 at a park just outside of Detroit.
Desert Penis
Something of a childish photo, but kinda funny nonetheless. This plant is located near the Red Rock National Recreation Area visitor’s center. Shaft, two balls. Gazer.
Red Rock Lookout
Just a good shot of Calico Hills from the overlook along the main road leading to Red Rock National Recreation Area. This place is really a Las Vegas gem… one of the most accessible, scenic and beautiful areas around the city. World famous, too!
Navin Snowboarding
Despite having no snow in Thailand, Navin seemed to pick up snowboarding pretty quickly. Good on him. Also caught this image in 2007 while he and I were strapping in to head down the mountain at Brianhead Ski Resort in southern Utah.
Little Skier Girl
I caught this image in 2007 while snowboarding at Brianhead Resort in southern Utah. Cropped, adjusted saturation.
